A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ALMOST CLAIMED LIVES.

ERMELO - At about 12h45 on Wednesday (05 April 2023) a horrible motor vehicle accident between a Toyota Quantum and a delivery truck ocurred on the N11, at the Wesselton Boxer Shopping complex intersection.

According to eye witnesses, a delivery truck was waiting to make a uTurn at a robot coming from Boxer shopping complex, which was working as a four way stop due to power failure. A taxi was coming from the graveyard direction approaching the said robot.

It is alleged that the taxi's breaks might have loosen off, which then required the driver to maneuver the taxi in avoiding a crush with a coal truck which was already in motion passing the robot.

The driver then tried to off-ramp on the righthand side which is where the delivery truck was stationary waiting to make the U-turn, thus hitting it at the back.

Emergency personnel were summoned in, which included the Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue department, Msukaligwa Traffic Department, EMS and ER24 who responded swiftly to the scene.

One passenger and a driver were on the Taxi, the driver was trapped inside and the Fire department had to use jaws of life to extract him from the wreckage.

The passenger sustained minor injuries and the driver sustained moderate injuries and they were both taken to hospital by ER24 and EMS respectively while the delivery truck driver and his passenger escaped with no injuries.
