EMPLOYEE AND ACCOMPLICE REMANDED IN CUSTODY FOR ALLEGEDLY UNLAWFULLY USING THE COMPANY'S FLEET CARD

Joseph Sibitane (51) and Rwisai Rufetu (48) were remanded in custody by the Delmas District Court on Thursday, 23 January 2025.

Both Sibitane and Rufetu were arrested after they allegedly unlawfully used Sibitane's employer fleet card from October to November 2022. Sibitane's employer suffered an actual loss of R935 301.00.

Sibitane was arrested by Delmas police on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, and Rufetu followed soon after he was arrested by the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. He was arrested after his court appearance in Middelburg, where he was facing other fraud charges.

Rufetu joined his co-accused, Sibitane, who made his first appearance on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, where he was remanded in custody for his second appearance today.

Both suspects made a brief appearance today and were remanded in custody, pending their next court appearance scheduled for 30 January 2025 for a formal bail application.

"The experienced team of investigators will do their best to prove a case that will lead to a conviction," said The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber.
