Nelspruit, 05 March 2025 – A 53-year-old security company owner and Director from Nelspruit has been arrested by members of the Organised Crime Unit within the SAPS Detective Services in Mpumalanga. He faces charges of perjury after allegedly selling numerous firearms, including rifles and pistols, to another security company and subsequently reporting them as stolen.

Investigations have revealed that the firearms were legally sold to a legitimate security company, which had properly registered them. This discovery made it impossible for law enforcement to seize the weapons, further exposing the gravity of the alleged offense. The suspect’s actions have raised significant concerns about public safety and the integrity of firearm regulations within the security industry.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court today, 05 March 2025, to face perjury charges. Authorities have indicated that further charges may be added as investigations progress.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the investigative team for their diligence in uncovering the scheme. He highlighted the importance of stringent firearm controls, especially given their frequent misuse in violent crimes. Expressing concern over the allegations, particularly as they involve an individual from the security sector, Major General Mkhwanazi reaffirmed the SAPS's commitment to upholding the law.

“The SAPS in Mpumalanga remains steadfast in ensuring justice is served. We urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to firearms to law enforcement authorities,” stated the General.

The case underscores the critical need for vigilance in firearm management and accountability within security firms, as any lapse could jeopardize public safety and undermine the legal system.
