In a significant stride towards educational transformation, the MEC for Public Works, Roads, and Transport today conducted an oversight visit at the soon-to-be-completed Mkhondo Boarding School. The visit marked a moment of reflection and anticipation as government leaders assessed the near-final stages of a project set to revolutionize access to education in the region.
Joined by the MEC for Education, Ms. Cathy Dlamini, Mkhondo Local Municipality Speaker Cllr Ngwenya, HOD Charles Morolo, and senior officials from both departments, the MEC walked through the state-of-the-art facility, which now stands at 98% completion.
The school, located in the heart of the Gert Sibande District, is designed to accommodate over 1,000 learners. It represents a bold step towards ensuring inclusive, dignified, and quality education for rural communities. The facility, once complete, will offer learners not only modern classrooms but a safe and nurturing residential environment conducive to academic success.
“To see this dream standing tall at 98% completion is deeply fulfilling,” said the MEC. “We are just a few final touches away from changing the lives of our children forever.”
Service providers and departmental teams are working tirelessly to complete the remaining tasks and ensure the school is ready for official handover to the Department of Education in the coming weeks.
More than just brick and mortar, the Mkhondo Boarding School is a testament to government’s commitment to breaking barriers in education and delivering equitable learning opportunities to all corners of Mpumalanga.
