MOZAMBICAN NATIONAL ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF ALLEGED STOLEN VEHICLE

The swift response from Lydenburg police led to the arrest of a 41 year old Mozambican national and the recovery of a reported stolen vehicle on Sunday 07 July 2024 at about 22h20.

The suspect, Armindo Chauque, made a brief court appearance in Lydenburg Magistrate's Court on monday, 08 July 2024. He was remanded in custody for further investigation and bail application scheduled for Wednesday, 10 July 2024.

According to information, police received a complaint about a suspicious looking vehicle that was parked in one of the filling stations in Lydenburg.

Police responded to a call and found a stationery silver Toyota Hilux GD6 with one occupant inside. Police interviewed the occupant, but he failed to give a satisfactory explanation about the ownership of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was reported stolen in Wierdabrug, Gauteng Province, this month (July 2024).

Chauque was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, hence his court appearance today.

Police can not rule out possibilities of adding other charges pending investigation.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the community members for reporting the suspicious vehicle. The General further applauded members for their speedy response.
