MEC Thulasizwe Thomo couldn't wait for the sun to rise today. He led a law enforcement operation in the early hours of the morning as part of back to school road safety campaign at Kamhlushwa in the Nkomazi Local Municipality.

The law enforcement operation was focusing on scholar transport operators that are operating at Kamhlushwa and the surrounding areas.

MEC Thomo said " We are not going to tolerate lawlessness on the roads. Our men and women in uniform wlll make sure that there is total compliance and that will assist in road safety and the reduction of road fatalities.

" The safety of learners is one of our priority as the Department" said Mr Thomo when a fourteen seater taxi was impounded for carrying 25 learners and one adult.

Twenty-four (24) vehicles were impounded for the contraception of the National Land Transport Act rules and regulations. Most of the vehicles were impounded for operating without operating licenses, Overloading and road unworthiness.

Similar operations will be conducted throughout the province during this term of schools reopening and beyond.
